An experiment. A collection of ideas. A way to jog your daydreams. A mess of prompts for stories, art, or comics.
I've grown to dislike a lot of prompt books and blogs. It seems they were created as a quick cash grab. Just use a random word generator, plug it into a word processor, make it look pretty, and send it to a publisher.
Anyone can make a prompt book or blog. But how many people put in the effort to make stories that others can continue or draw about? A few, but how common are they?
I hope to start a creative trend that will inevitably be copied by thousands before shriveling up and dying like so many online trends before it. If that happens, I know I will have accomplished something of note on the modern internet.
What is the posting schedule?
I'm trying to post three times a week for a year, which is early October 2023. After that, we'll see how I still feel about this blog.
Why "Fox Pickles"?
I forget exactly why I thought up the name, but I'm sure it had something to do with the kind of fun and creativity that the phrase fox pickles would conjure. It might have been an attempt to make children's material. But it's now it's a name for strange prompts until I sell the domain or allow it to expire.
Who are you?
Ellie Coral, cartoonist and grant/copywriter. I'm just having a little fun in between client work. Researching, writing, and editing can be a drain sometimes, and a little bit of weirdness helps make a bright spot in my day.
Can I see your other work?
The hub for my online projects is here. As for my professional work, I won't be sharing that on any of my online hangouts. I like to keep the two lives separate.
Some of these prompts feel more like stories you stopped writing.
That wasn't the intention, but I can see how someone can think that. But in way, that's kind of how they're like prompts, because you can finish them yourself.
Some of these aren't really impressive.
I never intended to write fantastic literature on this blog. If you want that, go read a classic novel. I do my best with the random three words I pick from a generator. Sometimes a trio of words inspires me to write clever content, sometimes they only sound nice together and I have to slap an entry together because my self-imposed deadline is approaching.
